We had Spring break this week. Even though we homeschool all of our usual activities for the week were cancelled like chess and our p.e. co-op. It was nice to have a break from the racing from class to class and the driving around from end of town to another.
We got the chance to do a few fun activities. We went to Lego store as my kids have been wanting to go for some time. They had been saving up to buy some Lego characters. Then, we went to a interior design store for me. We had lunch out. It was a special day to spend together.
We also went to the zoo with some friends. It was great to see them as they were part of our playgroup when the kids were younger. It is more difficult to see them now as we are on different schedules. So getting together during Spring break was nice.
It is amazing how much time we had on our hands. We cleaned the porch, the car, and the computer room. We also had more time to read and play games. In general, there was a lot less stress and more time to enjoy being together.
So, maybe I need to question if I do to many activities.
We attended the Arizona Homeschool Day at the Capitol with many other homeschoolers. There were insirational songs, skits, and poetry put on by homeschool kids. There were various legislators including the Governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer. The kids learned so much and were very excited to take part in the event. After we had lunch, we were able to tour the Capital Museum. We learned about the early days of Arizona and what has made Arizona so special over the years.
If your kids are in the preschool years, it is not too early to take teach them about goverment. You can even visit the city or state buildings in your area. As you explain things to them make sure to modify explanations so that they are understandable for you kids. Make them appropriate for the age and ability level of your children.
